Career Progression
Our main project involvement is non-academic placement. We also have training and short visits during projects.
For general community exchange we have the Career Progression Forum.
For those interested in impact and exploitation, we have the Research to Business Circle.
We support your next career step. The more active you are with us, the more we know about you and your plans, and the more we can support you.
Career progression in research is built on two things: experience and network. The non-academic placement with us gives you experience. The European Researcher Forum Series, hosted under MSCA Europe, builds your network.
Each career is individual. We need to understand you and your research topic. This takes time. The non-academic placement gives us the opportunity to understand your work and ambitions gradually during the fellowship period, and in more depth during the placement itself.
General recommendations
MSCA Sweden is designed as a capacity-building environment that supports researchers in strategic positioning. Your MSCA research topic establishes you as an excellent scientist. What we add is visibility and connection within the European research landscape.
1. Before your MSCA position | You can strengthen your research career before holding an MSCA position. Doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers are welcome to participate in forums, workshops, and community activities from the start.
2. During and after your MSCA research position | Scientific excellence is essential. But long-term career opportunities do not emerge from publications alone. We have structured ways to build this during your MSCA fellowship for both postdoctoral and doctoral researchers. Most invitations to consortia, advisory roles, expert groups, and strategic collaborations arise from:
- Professional networks
- Active participation in forums and workshops
- Cross-disciplinary dialogue
- Visibility in relevant communities
3. From MSCA Sweden to MSCA Europe | MSCA Sweden focuses on training and structured capacity building. MSCA Europe extends this into network and community activation. This is where researchers move from being applicants to becoming recognised contributors within a larger European context.
4. MSCA Europe and the European Ecosystem | Career progression in Europe increasingly happens inside consortia, thematic ecosystems, strategic research platforms, and public–private collaborations. We have formulated EuropeNoun for this larger European context — a consortium ecosystem concept that connects research and education with long-term European value creation. This is where researchers move from project-based participation to ecosystem-level positioning, with lasting connections beyond individual grants.
