Data-Driven Value Creation for the Digital Transition

Data-Driven Value Creation for the Digital Transition

ForumIndividual track with final workshop

The forum has introductory character. Those who want to go deeper can join the individual track with development of own case and final workshop for peer exchange. All activities are using online mode (via Zoom).

This is for researchers who want to position their research and career in alignment with the digital transition.

  • Data used in research publications must be stored and made available on request.
  • Regulations including Digital Product Passports and data spaces also require data to be stored and shared.
  • Machine learning and AI are part of a value chain, and that chain can only optimise through shared data.

Your data pathway is how your research connects to the digital transition.
It is also how you demonstrate relevance for project funding and how you position your research in the European research and innovation context.
A clear data-driven value creation strategy makes your research more useful, more credible, and better positioned for competitive project proposals.

Forum

The forum runs for three hours and combines structured content with open interaction. Two experienced presenters guide the session, covering the data pathways and explaining a three-layer framework. The session has a real case example* from advanced materials research.
The format is designed for exchange. Questions and discussion are built into the session (not at the end of session).

  • Shared data to create values for impact and exploitation towards business and sustainability
  • Digitalisation: shared data in trustable, traceable and transparent ways
  • Realistic impact beyond project duration and digital transition alignment with Horizon Europe requirements for post-project effects and preparing for FP10 expectations
  • Impact and exploitation pathways for research and career development from shared data (stronger career and research since progress is motivated by realistic use of data)
  • Contribution tracking: how digitally evidenced research contributions recorded today can be traced, valued and rewarded as their impact becomes clear over time, even years after the original work (how you can get reward many years after research contribution)
  • Sustainability values and assets — how research contributions support business-motivated sustainable goals (so people actually want to pay for sustainability because it makes money)
  • Digital assets and sustainability assets — realistic exploitation of innovation and technology
  • New business models by shared data: investment in start-ups without giving away shares; for example expensive equipment (capex cost becomes opex cost, money is used for development instead of being locked in expensive equipment)
  • Tokenization: a new investment platform built on evidenced readiness levels — from technology and societal readiness to commercialisation and market readiness
  • Case study: tokenization of silicon carbide manufacturing by CS-PVT | a pilot and special purpose vehicle

Individual case and workshop for peer feedback

The individual track runs over three months and consists of three components: the forum, individual case building, and a final workshop.

Forum — the starting point, covering the three-layer framework and real case example.

Individual sessions — one-to-one meetings to develop your own data-driven value creation case. You will receive feedback from us and refine your plan ahead of the workshop.

Workshop — each participant presents their case in a 10-minute presentation followed by 10 minutes of feedback from organizers and fellow participants. Participants learn from each other’s cases and build both knowledge and network through the process.

Fee: 750 EUR *

* Price reduced by 100 EUR if you have attended Forum.

This track focuses on identifying the relevant data in your research, the data pathways and how the data is used for value creation and the digital transition. The next step is exploring what that creates — the effects and outcomes addressed in the Workshop: Impact from Data-Driven Value Creation

Shared data is transforming how value is created in society. It underpins regulatory frameworks like the Digital Product Passport, drives AI development in technology and business, and shapes how products, services and policies are designed. Data that is accessible, combinable and shared across value chains enables optimisations that benefit entire sectors.

Research is part of this transformation. Results must be documented and shared as evidence of what has been achieved. Open access publications make findings available to other researchers and to AI systems that advance knowledge. But not all papers are open access, and valuable data also exists in lab books, datasets and unpublished records.

Data-driven implementation is no longer optional for researchers who want to create credible impact and exploitation. Without it, research risks to be not relevant as part of the digital and green transitions that are reshaping European society and economy.

Researchers who understand how shared data creates value and who understands how to position their work will have advantages, and strong motivations for realistic impact and exploitation. This training builds that understanding.
