Data-Driven Value Creation in Green Technologies

There is the green and digital (twin) transition. Often the technology is described, but not about its digital transition. Research in a green technology that includes the digital transition will be more relevant in the European context. Data-driven value creation supports credible exploitation pathways, from outputs to outcomes, and realistic impact. A value chain can optimize by sharing data. That also increases resilience, supports social acceptance, and builds toward the requirements for traceability, transparency, and trust of data across European markets. The data evidences the sustainability.

The advantages for green technologies are clear. Evidenced data on energy sources, processes, and the technology output is becoming necessary for credible positioning towards further financing and higher technology readiness levels, but also for regulatory alignment including Digital Product Passports once your technology is market ready. Data-driven value creation for the digital transition in green technologies addresses these aspects.

Each technology and researcher make a unique combination. Training is therefore individual, not in group. It includes:

– Example from the GlobalSiC pilot project with real-world implementation — from energy source to energy use and product output with sustainablity tracking (energy mix from the grid → CO2 per wafer from energy source to use → a KPI that evidences sustainability)
– Introduction to the digital transition in the European context
– Motivation for why including the digital transition is necessary for a green technology
– Shared data as part of realistic exploitation pathways — from outputs to outcomes
– Choice of data sources to support value chain optimisation
– Trusted energy source data for key performance indicators which evidence sustainability
– Data-driven value creation: building toward digital and sustainability assets
– New business models for funding and investment to align technology readiness with societal readiness.
– Investment routes that shift CapEx to OpEx, and the possibility of investment in an SME without giving away shares

You can start anytime. The individual track runs over three months with biweekly meetings (90 minutes each). You will build a roadmap for your own research case. You will have mentoring for your individual case building for research as well as career perspective. Participants complete the training with an advanced assignment (finalised roadmap for research and career).

Participants receive a certificate of the course and assignment after completion: “Digital Transition for Green Technologies: Roadmap for Research and Career — ICM Research Institute, Alminica AB, Sweden.”

The GlobalSiC pilot case that we will share is a part of Wafer Ecosystem. The pilot case is explored together with Mats Brodén (expert in creating value and assets from data) and Lars Montelius (former director International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, INL that is the first International Intergovernmental Organisation (IGRO) in Europe conducting world-class research and development in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. He is currently member executive board The Innovative Advanced Materials Initiative, IAM-I that is the international non-profit Association that will operate the European co-programmed partnership Innovative Advanced Materials for Europe.

Lectures by Mikael Syväjärvi who has more than 20 years of experience from international technology transfer, start-up creation and research-to-business activities. This experience forms the basis for his SME, Alminica AB, which contributes to European research projects with transfer of knowledge for impact and exploitation from research and innovation towards business and sustainability. Recent examples include the EU FET Open project SiComb (2020–2024) and the EIC Pathfinder project rePowerSiC (2024–2028). He is accepted as a mentor in the two European Innovation Council (EIC) 2026 programmes EIC Tech to Market and EIC Women Leadership. These activities support researchers and innovators in areas such as value proposition development, early-stage commercial thinking, leadership development, and strategic reflection on future opportunities arising from research and innovation.
