European Research-to-Impact Forum Series
The European Research-to-Impact Forum Series is a structured capacity-building initiative. It provides a professional forum where researchers discuss how scientific excellence progresses toward societal, technological and strategic impact within the European research landscape.
The series is open to MSCA Doctoral Candidates, Postdoctoral Fellows, and prospective applicants, as well as other early- and mid-career researchers who wish to strengthen their impact positioning in Horizon Europe and future FP10 contexts.
Purpose
European funding programmes increasingly require credible impact pathways, sustainability awareness, and strategic positioning beyond scientific excellence. Researchers are well trained to present methods and results, however, many have had limited opportunity to openly discuss:
- Who will use the results
- Through which mechanisms impact may emerge
- How impact can be evidenced and sustained
- How research contributes to long-term European priorities
The Forum Series provides a structured environment to reflect on these dimensions and to strengthen impact understanding as part of career development.
Format
The series alternates between:
Structured Forum Sessions
A researcher presents their work, followed by moderated discussion on impact pathways, stakeholder relevance, sustainability considerations and strategic positioning.
Open Dialogue Sessions
Thematic exchanges where participants collectively explore emerging questions related to research-to-impact thinking, proposal readiness, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
This alternating format combines focused reflection with open exchange, creating space for both clarity and new ideas.
Invitation to Present
Researchers are welcome to present within the Forum Series.
Presentations should address both scientific excellence and the potential pathways toward societal, technological or strategic impact (discussion). Presenters benefit from structured feedback, broaden their European network, and strengthen their impact understanding. Participation can be included in professional merits, for example:
“Invited speaker, MSCA Sweden European Research-to-Impact Forum Series.”
Capacity-Building Value
Engagement in the Forum Series supports:
- Stronger impact positioning in MSCA and Horizon proposals
- Increased confidence in discussing research-to-impact pathways
- Broader interdisciplinary insight
- Expanded European research networks
- Documented participation in structured capacity-building activities
The Forum is a developmental arena to refine and strengthen research-to-impact thinking in a constructive and collegial environment.
