European Research-to-Impact Forum Series
The European Research-to-Impact Forum Series is a capacity-building activity to support researchers in clarifying their impact from research and innovation. Often there is more impact than we believe since impact can in addition to scientific impact be technological, societal or economic. In addition, impact in Horizon Europe 2026-2027 and FP10 includes impact that relates to environmental, digital transition or sustainability dimension. It can also be challenging to describe how impact can be measured and evidenced.
In this series researchers exchange how scientific excellence can progress towards impact within the European research landscape.
Format
The series consists of:
Open Forum Sessions
Open exchange format. No presentations, no fixed agenda – discussions inspired by participants to learn from each other related to research-to-impact. The Open Forum is based on the Open Space Technology concept, where discussion builds from the knowledge and interest of those present.
Presentation Forum Sessions
A presentation acts as inspiration case and discussion trigger to learn from, and at the same time be useful to provide ideas to the speaker. After the presentation and discussion, there is time for open exchange.
Workshop
Researchers who wish to further develop their impact understanding, build their European network, and position their research in a broader context are welcome to join the Workshop Series on European Research and Impact Potential.
Purpose
European funding programmes increasingly require credible impact pathways, sustainability awareness, and strategic positioning beyond scientific excellence. Researchers are well trained to present methods and results. However, many have had limited opportunity to openly discuss:
- Who will use the results
- Through which mechanisms impact may emerge
- How impact can be evidenced and sustained
- How research contributes to long-term European priorities
The Forum Series provides a structured environment to reflect on these dimensions and to strengthen impact understanding as part of career development.
